Premier League

Waterford Crystal 1 Southend 2

A great display from our premier team again as they beat Waterford Crystal away. It all started when Sean O Loughlin slotted home a penalty on 17mins. Waterford Crystal nearly levelled on 25 minutes after a strong shot to the low right was brilliantly saved by Sean Walsh tipping the ball onto the post. We then then had another great chance for on 39 mins when Mickey Merrigan created a chance but his shot went over the bar leaving it 1-0 at half time in our favour

Crystal had a great chance in the first minute of second half but ball went wide
Southend then had a free kick in the 54th minute swung in by David Griffin and eventually found its way to Davey McGrath who worked a good position but shot over the bar .
We had another penalty in the 59th minute after some great passing and great work but unfortunately Sean O Loughlin wasn’t on target and pulled it to the right and wide
Waterford Crystal had another chance in the 65th minute from a corner when the ball found its way to a free man in the box but he dragged it wide. Yet another chance for crystal in the 79th minute when they were one on one with the keeper but Sean Walsh stood up strong and kept it out
Southend then scored their second in the 86th minute. The ball found its way up front to Glen Hawe who composed himself, looked up and put a pin point pass through to David McGrath who found the bottom left corner
Crystal then made it a tense end to the game with a goal in the 90th minute. A free found its way to the back post where it was headed back across to Mitchell Casey waiting on his own in the middle for an easy header. Everyone played brilliant and the defenders gave nothing away with Mark Phelan winning nearly every ball that came his way. A nail biting finish finally ended after what seemed an eternity of extra time but another fantastic 3 points for the lads. Well done to Lee and Dougie and all the lads.

U13A league
Park Rangers 0 Southend 2
Lads got their first game in the league underway with a deserved three points. If it wasn’t for some wayward finishing and loss of composure in front of goal we could of had another few but take nothing away from a good Park Rangers team having their first match in the A league and they did very well. We played some great football at times and that was the most pleasing thing. Scorer on the night was Shane o Sullivan with two, one a tap in after great work by Azeez and the other goal a brilliant lob from 25 yards. Nice to see the subs come on to and play very well.

15A Park Rangers 3 Southend United 5
First game of the season here against newly promoted Rangers saw us come home with all three points, however we were made to work hard for our victory, A goal down after 2 minutes we equalised through Sam .Our opponents then scored 2 more to leave us with a mountain to climb, the lads dug deep and eventually got 4 goals without reply. Goals from Calum Flynn and Sam Pender (4).Well done all.

14A League

Tremendous performance from our u14a lads beating Carrick 6 1.
Scorers were Calum Flynn (3) Jimmy Byrnes(3), solid all round display from all

12A Southend 0v Bohs 5

Poor performance from the lads against a Bohs side who were well organised and who worked very hard when they didn’t have the ball. A number lot of individual mistakes and lack of work rate cost us in this game and its back to the drawing board in training this week to pick ourselves up and look forward to the next game

12B Southend United 1 Johnville 4,

A defeat for the lads here but we take great heart from the work rate of each and every one of our players. The score line could have been better but for the opposition keeper who had a great game. So it’s back to training on Monday, where we will strive to improve, well done to all of the young kids from both sides for an entertaining game.

16B Southend United v Kilmacow,

A very good performance from this side saw us take maximum points .Goals aplenty from Bami 2, Rhys 2, Jack 2, a stunning goal from Daniel and also a goal from Toisin who after a long absence, at least he didn’t forget where the net was! Lots of candidates for MOTM but we plump for Sam o Hara who didn’t put a foot wrong. Well done boys.

U 16 A Southend 3 Carrick 2,

Last gasp winner from Sam Pender here after fine work from Anthony Adenopo saw us collect all points here.We led by 2 goals at the break via Brooklyn and Anthony but a determined Carrick side fought back to level things only for our late goal spoiled things for the visitors, man of the match was Brandon with Kyle very impressive between the posts

4th div St. Joseph’s 0v Southend 4

Good win for the old timers here, two good finishes from Beanie, a super diving header from Zak and a fantastic volley from 25 yards from Damien sealed the points here. We came in level at half time but the lad’s superior fitness levels told in the 2nd half to help us keep our unbeaten start to the season.
