14 A Villa 2 Southend 5

We came into this game league with three fixtures left and all to play for. Having met Villa at home only last week and coming out on top we knew we’d be facing a backlash so we needed to be at it from the off. We started brightly and had most of the possession but struggled to carve out any real chances. Shane O’Sullivan and Callum Flynn fired over the bar and Jay Bagge dragged wide before Kalum Connors popped up with a glancing header for a rare goal from a well worked corner. Charlie Power reacted quickest after a goalmouth scramble to put us two up soon after and Jack Twomey powered home a clever free kick before the break to put us in control. Second half saw us pick up where we left off with everyone working extremely hard to stay on top. Azeez Alabi was confident between the sticks and the back four were solid, keeping things under control. Callum fired in our 4th midway through the half and rounded the keeper soon after for his second after Shane squared from the edge of the area. We conceded two late, very avoidable goals after maybe taking our foot off the gas a bit which is unfortunate but a fantastic performance which puts us in a good position with two games left. Everyone to a man worked extremely hard all game but Jack Twomey was exceptional, probably our best player on the day. Thanks for the continued support, the boys really appreciate it.

12A Southend 0 Carrick 0.

In very poor conditions we played out a draw against a well organised Carrick side. We dominated most of the game with Adam Hearne being a bystander for most of it and if we had taken some of the chances we created in the second half we could have easily ended up comfortable winners. It was great to see the lads pick themselves up after last week’s defeat and every one of them gave their all with a lot of good performances on the day but Mohammed Oladiti just shaded player of the game , well done to Tommy Mullally who also had a great game in midfield.

16A Southend 1 Villa 2
Disappointment for these lads as they suffered defeat here, with a much depleted squad, however nothing can be took away from this bunch of boys as they battled and fought for every ball. Our goal came from Devon with Brandon our Man of the Match, All our efforts will now go into the cup, well done to all

U13A League Southend 2 – 0 Bohemians

We came into this fixture knowing a win would position us up around the top of the table. We started very brightly with two early half chances, and we broke the deadlock inside two minutes after Shane O’Sullivan slipped a lovely ball behind for Jay Bagge to square for Azeez who coolly slotted home. We had most of the ball for the remainder of the half but couldn’t find the net with Bohs goalkeeper pulling off some fantastic saves. The second half went similarly until Shane cut in from the right side of the box with five minutes to go, held off two tackles and picked out Jay at the back post, who turned beautifully and found the far corner with a great strike. Matt Barrett had a solid game at full back and was probably our best player this evening. Not our best performance of the season by any means but an important win nonetheless. Thanks as always for the support on the line it means a lot to the boy’s.

Under 11’s travelled to Villa to play two really good games. There was a lot of goalmouth action and some lovely football on show from both clubs, we had some really good performances on the night from Darragh Smith Jamie Swift and Karl Homa with Patrick and Sebastian but player of the game goes to Shane Moran who christened he’s new boots with two beautiful goals. Well done to all and especially the younger players tonight.

Disappointment here for the lads as they suffered their first loss of the season to the reigning champions. In a very hard fought contest we consider ourselves very unlucky not to have come away with any points, the winning goal came via a penalty. Most neutrals at the game would probably agree that on the balance of play we should have won the game, however all is not lost in that we have two games to play and if we picked up maximum points from both we could get a playoff against today’s opposition of which I’m sure the lads would relish this chance to redeem themselves. Heads up lads and let’s regroup and go again.
