Southend 6 Villa 2
Fantastic start for this team, we dominated the game and played some excellent football but most pleasing was the quality of some of our defending from our back four of Matt, Alan, Callum and Sebastian against Villa’s big striker. Adam Dobbyn scored two, his second a brilliant finish from a great team passing movement. Charlie Barden used his pace and trickery to notch two and a brilliant volley from Tommy Mullally from outside the box crashed in off the bar forcing an og. Some brilliant play and cross from Aaron Cass caused havoc in the away defence forcing a second OG. Every one of the lads worked tirelessly for each other getting stuck into every challenge and looking to pass the ball at every opportunity and big praise for Adam Hearne who made a fantastic save just before half time and the work rate of Czerek and Aaron Cass on the wings getting back to help out and bursting forward to help our attacks .Lots of excellent performances all over the pitch but Tommy and Muhammad were brilliant with Muhammad just shading the player of the game .It was also great to see Shane ,Jamie,Darragh and Karl come on and perform brilliantly for us with Shane very unlucky not to score ,

U15A League

Southend United 3 Villa 1.

We started our league campaign against Villa in windy conditions that suited neither side. Playing with the wind in the first half we went ahead after three minutes when Calum latched onto a through ball and finished high to the roof of the net. With Jack marshalling the defence and Rhedeem and Peter working tirelessly in midfield we began to take control and Calum put us two up after twenty minutes with another excellent finish. With Kailum and Jimmy constant threats out wide we were unlucky not to go further ahead before Calum did the business again five minutes before halftime. We knew Villa would come out strong in the second half and aided by the strong wind they cut the deficit with a goal after seven minutes. For the following ten minutes we were under pressure but began to regain some control with Simon assured on his first start on goal and Jack outstanding alongside Ben, Cormac, Adam and Calum Sloan when he entered the fray. With Hayden Power always offering an outlet up front we closed out the game to capture the three points a very good result against a quality Villa side.

12A Southend 2 Tramore 2
A good performance from the lads against a very good away side. We started very shakily giving Tramore a half chance and it took us fifteen minutes to get into the game after the visitors took the lead from a good breakaway after they cleared our corner and we failed to get back and follow their runners leaving a man free on the back post to slot past Eddie on the goal .This woke us up and after a fine passing move Karl Homa finished neatly at the back post .We dominated for most of the game after with the Tramore keeper pulling off some fine saves but once again we were own worst enemy after we failed to clear from their corner and Tramore went ahead again. Our lads kept going and Mohammad scored one of the goals of the season already when he went around five or six players or before unleashing a thunderbolt of a shot into the top corner of the net .We pushed and pushed for the last fifteen minutes but couldn’t find a way past the Tramore keeper who had an outstanding game. Plenty of positives to take away and a lot of good performances with Shane Moran and Conor McEnery impressing but Man of the match was Paul Kiely who had an outstanding game in midfield for us.

Ferrybank v Southend United

Our u14 side got off to a winning start this away to Ferrybank. Some very good individual displays all over the field which tied into a good team performance that we were happy with, and can build on going forward. Great attitude shown by all which is what we always ask for. Goals from Shane O’Sullivan (2), Azeez Alabi (2), Ben Boland, Matt Barrett, Rhedeem Eddy Atu and importantly a clean sheet for Adam Hearne and his defence.

16A Park Rangers 3 Southend United 5
The opening game of the season saw us take maximum points against a very spirited home side. However we had to work extremely hard to achieve this, we started as usual by giving away the lead, but then showed character to get over the line. Goals from Jack, Calum, Sam and a brace from Antoni, Well done to Dev & Smurf .

Youth B
Johnville 1 Southend United 0
If games were won on possession of the ball, then we would have come away convincing winners, however the aim of the game is to score goals and we were badly lacking in that department. After conceding very early in the game we created enough chances to win two games, we just couldn’t buy a goal in this game While the squad will come away disappointed with nothing to show for all their efforts the management team must surely be happy with the lads showing. Well done to all involved.
