12 A Southend 1 Dungarvan 0 .

Lads got back to winning ways here against the league leaders after last week’s disappointment against Evergreen .In the Ist half against a strong enough wind we were pinned back a bit for most of the half with Dungarvan having a lot of the ball but we defended as a team brilliantly and broke on them once or twice and maybe should have finished better. We started pressing higher up the pitch in the second half and this brought Adam Dobbyn more into the game and with Adam Hearne on the goal not having to make one real save of note we started to gain control .In fairness to Dungarvan they stuck to their principles of playing it out from the back and are a lovely footballing side to watch but when Wojtek came on he put in some brilliant crosses and we were unlucky not to score from one or two of them through Adam Dobbyn and Daniel Byrne. With 5 minutes to go a bit of magic from Tommy Mullally playing in a fantastic ball between their centre half and full back for Shane Moran to run on to and blast a shot into the right bottom corner to score the winner .We had a few little scares before full time but our defence dealt with everything from free kicks and corners to see it out .Very hard again to pick a Man of the Match but Callum Kennedy Dunphy was brilliant in defence today so just shades It.

Division 4 Kilmacow 0 Southend 2

After winning 2-0 our 4th division team are champions for the second year in a row with this team now unbeaten for two years. Damien Kelly was as usual on the score sheet with a finish from close range after twenty minutes.Turning point in the game was the introduction of legendary striker Lee Hayes and he was only on the pitch for one minute before he cracked a screamer into the roof of the net to guarantee us the points and the title.Dev and Sta were very strong at the back with Barry Phelan and Thomas Kirby putting in strong shifts in the middle of the field. Well done to Bub, Ger and all the lads on a tremendous achievement.
